Reflections

Learned scholars tell us that the basis for all human actions is linked to one of two emotions, love or fear. Why do people act as they do? Why do they make the choices they do? We all seek safety, security, and acceptance by our “group” (love) and we avoid pain (fear). Is it true that something could be so simple? Why do people say the things they do and act the way they do? it seems as if actions can be tied to the need for love and acceptance or explained through avoidance of pain or fear of suffering. Does this excuse poor behavior? No, it doesn’t; however, as a witness, we can take a pause to consider which of these emotions is at the root. We cannot control others’ actions or their needs. We can control our own.
