The World Needs Passion
I woke up every day of a former 35-year career with anticipation and excitement about going to work (truth). To me, it was never just a job. Being founder and president provided me was an opportunity to learn, to support, to assist, to provide solutions for clients, and to live my very best life. I loved everything about serving my colleagues and my customers. Although I was primarily responsible for the business expansion and profitability of a growing landscape company, nothing made my heart sing like being out on worksites with camera in hand photographing the challenges and excitement of a new construction site, or following around a crew who was manicuring a property to show it off in its best. Everything about the experience of creatively recording our work made me feel alive. Although it was never my primary responsibility, it was my primary passion.
So what did I do when I knew it was time to hang up my boots and my hard hat? I grabbed my camera and embraced the passion that had been there all along. And I have become fully alive. Photography has taken me to large cities, small towns, festivals and celebrations, and local as well as foreign events. I served my company with joy for the decades I was President, but now I am grateful that I can follow my bliss by doing what Howard Thurman suggests for all of us.
